Anyone have any ideas on how I, a 19 year old, could get insured on my e30 325? Ive searched for days and have had no luck with any reasonable quotes. Just looking for any help. Thanks.

What you consider excessive might simply be the norm for that car, in your area, at your age. What sort of premiums are you seeing? Are you doing lots of miles? Is it modified? A 'black box' policy may be the cheapest, but you'll have to drive like a saint to maintain the discount into future years. For example, my 21 year old niece, who passed her test almost 3 years ago, is paying close to £200/month for a 10year old Peugeot 207 worth £2k at most.

If you add your parents to your policy this can often reduce the premium :-)
Perhaps the e30 325 should have come after something like a Mini One D or Aygo etc when you could have put a couple of years no claims under your belt. The 325 is a potent car and (no disrespect intended) young (male) drivers are often involved in accidents. Good luck and do enjoy the 325 - I still do :-)

It is my second car so would be limited mileage, but the only quote I have got back from anyone is £5000 a year which I just cant afford. If that is all there is to offer then I might just garage the car and work on it until I can afford to actually drive it

Maybe a classic policy would work out cheaper then?

I thought paying 900 Euros per year on my 2.8 Z3 in France, with full NCB and being in my seventies was extortionate! Growing old does indeed have its compensations - but by the time you can insure a decent car at a reasonable premium the UK will probably have a ban on petrol cars, and a 40 mph speed limit . . . Looks as if you will have to swallow your pride and drive a 'Grey Porridge' type of car until you grow older! Mind you - an average small Peugot hatchback with a 1.9 turbo diesel has plenty of performance, and is relatively cheap (?) to insure.

A Z3 is not just for Christmas - it's for life!

A Plan is indeed a Broker and not an Insurance underwriter, they try to match the Policy with the proposed insured. I have found them 100% efficient and successful for both my cars E39 523i and E65 B7 4.4 . However, I always smile when people discuss quoted prices as so many factors are taken into account when the quote is given not limited to but to include a few:-
a. Occupation b. Post Code c. Car garaged d. Alarm system e. Tracker fitted f. Car value g. Age of insured h. How long full licence held i. No claims bonus j. Offences or convictions k. amount of excess on policy l. Courtesy car required m. Break down recovery included n. as per M but including Europe o. Annual mileage p. type of usage ie social, inc commuting or inc business use? q. Legal protection cover I am sure there are a host more, however it is all about risk assessment and young people who may be excellent and safe and responsible driver suffer from the fact statistics say otherwise. Therefore, it is almost impossible to compare person A to person B. A Plan do a great job for me, there are alternatives and they will not be able to match every person who contacts them. |

Not too sure that this makes any correlation due to the contents of my post and the components made to give any client a quote? I really do not think people understand how the quote is made. For example a Doctor, Dentist, Barrister, Surgeon, Solicitor and other business professionals will get a better rate based on occupation compared to for example a roofer, plumber, builder, factory, shop worker or manual labour. The degree of risk is perceived to be lower. You can also have situation where depending upon which side of a road you live with a different postcode may have impact. The information you give needs to be as accurate as possible, it is often not and even though people have not deliberately tried to be untruthful they may have missed telling the insurer something to their benefit. An example in may previous address I had no garage, however we did live in the ground of a Manor house which had a 10ft high wall, electric gates, CCTV and a security patrol. Therefore, just ticking the boxes or saying yes or no may not benefit you. The real point is, how much time do you have and how many quotes do you want to get, the premiums change on a daily basis based on th number of claims being made and the number of payments. If you get a quote just after winter it will probably be higher especially if cars crash in ice and snow, if your area has flooded it may increase, if there have been thefts in your area of your model or car type and so on and so forth. You may try to simplify it but its not black and white. My son used to work for a major insurance underwriter and the information I have posted was gained from him in the most part.
