An old E39 530d auto est as I can't get a g/box, only got reverse no forward got the oil and filter done 2 months ago but did nothing. So apart from converting to manual (but no space ect) it'll probably get scrapped. Or if anybody can come up with anything i'm all ears..

I have a 523i auto, not in great condition. It cannot be worth much more than 700 pounds if that. What value do you put on your E39 and how much in parts and labour to fix your problem? Probably best to chop it into a breakers uless it is in great condition or sentimental and just buy another.

Don't know how much it's worth but it'll cost £2200 for a rebuild or easy 1100 to convert....or about 50-70 for the breaker to get it. Yes it's in bloody good nick no rust ect virtualy unmarked inside too, I just don't know what the hell to do.

It you really are attached to the car and its in good condition, then consider this moving forward. Mine is 20 years old next year, I think I saw a 53 plate one once but guess that would be 17 years old now?

So you have a car you love, and a potential future classic, if you can afford to get it repaired it seems to make sense. If you don't get it repaired then you get scrap value or strip it and sell parts, if you even have the time, facilities and interest to do that. Then you still need a car unless you have others.

Trouble is, you rebuild the gearbox and then it drops a valve, blows the turbo or has a catastrophic MOT failure.

It's a tough one.

It's the toughest call ever to scrap a car, but I think that's the right one in this case. You just know it'll always be something if you decide to keep throwing money and time at it.
I think payday loans are the best solution for most people.
