Hi all,
the tape player on my business stereo (E36) has stopped working - in fact, i dont know when it last did as ive only had car since Aug 19 and its spent most of the time since n my garage!

I put a tape in and it played for about 1 second and then stopped - maybe its my taste in music!! ha LOL
Screen just says error and will not do anything, it wont even let me eject it!!!
Thing is, i want to fix it and not replace it with a newer style one as the car is 100% stock and i want to keep it that way...... even down to the stereo!
I'd like to get display refurbed whilst im at it too as there are a couple gone Cry

Any recommendations for specialists or do you think any car stereo place would be ok?
Saying that, do they still exist? is there a market for ICE any more?

Andy

I don't think most car stereo places will do what you need. They are focused on installing new equipment, not repairing old stuff.
There are people out there who repair old electronics and car radios. I don't have any specific recommendations though, either do some googling or look in some classic car mags then make a few phone calls.
Another option is to buy a working used one on eBay. It's a bit of a gamble though. I spent five years looking for an original radio cassette for my E30. I bought four, but none were good enough to install. Then one day up pops an unused one still in original packaging for £40 including delivery !

Thanks for reply NickDE,
Thats pretty much what i thought too but you never know.........

Id rather listen to silence than have a new style stereo fitted so i'll keep searching.

Don't know if this site is any good (they seem to specialise in BM54 units) but you could give them a call. They might point you to someone else if they can't do it.
Otherwise as Nick said keep looking on eBay.

I had the professional original tape player and radio in my E39. It was hopeless wouldnt play the tapes correctly and radio was terrible. I got it taken out and a very good pioneer stereo radio with bluetooth fitted.

Mine was just broken, but tbh I need the hands free bluetooth. It was a real pain, as I had to keep stopping and ring back people who called. I now get digital radio and I have it on every time I get in a car.
