Hi there,

This is going to make me look stupid so I might as well get that out of the way from the outset!  I've acted in haste so might as well begin to repent at leisure.  I've got rid of my i3 due to a change in my driving needs - I will be doing longer journeys and the charging infrastructure still isn't there yet IMHO.   Today I bought a 2019 X1 xDrive 20i automatic.   Having driven it, it appeared to be just what I needed.

However, and this is the silly bit, I can't figure out what specification it is.  It seems to be a mild hybrid as there is a Charge/Power display similar to the i3.  It's definitely not a plug in hybrid.   I rang BMW and they kindly sent me a long list of things it has such as privacy glass, leather etc but it doesn't tell me anything about the technical/mechanical side of things.  For instance I was sad to learn it doesn't have wifi like the i3 had and so I can't have Car Play.  It does have 4x4 (I thought the x didn't mean much as the guy at Stratstone said they (all X1s) were either rear, front or 4x4 dependant on spec.  No idea why but I just thought it was front wheel drive, until I just got an old towel and laid on the drive to look underneath LOL  This is a bonus though as it will come in handy when we have those 3 days of snow!!

So, does anyone know how to suss the spec of the mechanicals/technical options please?

Also, is there a way to get Car Play to work without the Wifi that isn't as standard on this car?

Thank you for reading.

X1 is the model.

xDrive is the 4WD designation. sDrive (or nothing) would mean 2WD. xDrive will move power front/back/sideways as it's needed.

I think 2019 models escaped the mild hybrid tech (MHT) updates that came in 2022, so I think the charge/power you're seeing on the fuel economy meter is just the 'eco-prodding' that cars of that era (my 2016 model included) were forced to have.

At that age it will also require AdBlue, and I think you top it up via a port near the fuel filler...and this is used to treat the diesel emissions with urea. You don't want that to get blocked or fail.

But I'm surprised the dealer couldn't tell you - and that you went ahead with the purchase - without knowing exactly what model/spec you were purchasing!

Hi and thanks for the info.   I’ve since found the designation is F48 so, I can order mats with some confidence.  🙂

It’s a 2.0 petrol so I don’t think it will need adblue?!?  Other surprises are things like the mirrors not folding when you lock it, and no auto headlights. Guess I’ve been naive to think that the humble i3 was ‘basic’ and any other model would be similarly or better featured.

I understand your surprise, Tony, but that’s just part of being me (and why I acknowledged “act in haste” etc). I’m loving driving the car and am impressed by the 500+ mile tank range. Full charge on the i3 would only get me 180 Summer miles, if driven in Eco Pro, and around 120 in this cold weather.

I’m also thinking the car must have spent a fair amount of time in France.  The satnav country was set to France and there were some of those headlight adapters in the glovebox and a triangle in the boot.  That, and the first 2 Driver profiles were French sounding names!

Regarding CarPlay, it looks like I’ll have to get an aftermarket box of tricks fitted.

Steve

Everything is an option or subscription nowadays, and lots of options are not standard on certain trim levels...so it's very easy to spend £50k on a £40k car once you add in the bigger wheels, decent iDrive/sat nav, decent stereo, decent lights, comfort access, electric tow bar, storage pack, tech pack, m-sport pack, m-sport pro pack, etc.

You should be able to use the sales brochurecatalogue to see what options/packs were available for your model...
