Guys and gals,

My 2010 F10 535D M Sport has now been in the garage for a week. I was driving in some mild rain and under acceleration the car started to hesitate, and later started making loud tapping sounds. My BMW garage called to suggest the inter-cooler may have sucked up water into the airbox, and that if they found water in the engine it would not be covered under warranty. I went ballistic at them, as why would a car suck up water?! They tried to make out I must have waded through deep water or driven in torrential rain. When I reminded them that I have cameras on the car and that I can prove that this was not the case, they stopped pushing this narrative.

I bought the car less than a year ago, as an approved used car from BMW with full service history bu BMW with 51k miles on it, and since have only done an additional 7k miles. It has been to the garage on 5 or 6 occasions since to fix faults under warranty, an had its MOT only last month with them, passing with zero faults.

At the moment I do not know hat has happened, but they said I will get a report either Monday or Tuesday and we can take it form there. I am absolutely at my wits end with this car and BMW. In the meantime, does anyone have any advice or experience on how I should deal with BMW if they try to play hardball with me?

I do  not want to worry you.but my daughter had an identical situation with her E46 coupe.  After a week of zero activity by her local BMW dealer she took it to a specialist, who took two hours to diagnose a pair of bent con-rods, caused by water entering via a split intake bellows.

Luckily, her house insurance covered all types of flood damage, and  gave her a decent write-off value.

Hope you get better news!

Poor customer service from BMW franchised dealers is all too common and BMW UK are next to useless as well.

What happened? Did they identify and fix the problem for you FOC?
