Hello I have recently come into possession of an e30 318 lux convertible, the power hood dosnt work and I cant work out how to open the hood stowage lid manually? I have had a little look around and found some vehicles with manual release buttons in the rear door cards this car does not have them. Is there anyway of releasing the latches which hold the hood stowage lid down ?? Any help would be really great.

As per answer on other thread http://www.bmwccgbforum.co.uk/any-convertible-questions-e21-e30-e36_topic6841.html The central motor operates cables to each side catch - worst case you will have to insert the small hex (also in your toolbox) key into the motor and rotate manually to release the catches by rotating the lever holding the two cables |

Try lifting the hood up yourself from the rear to clear the flap and push the power fold button to operate the flap. Usually the bracket tears away so stops working because of this. Its a crap design, I will be eventually converting mine to proper manual release.

To be honest I have helped fix many roofs and the problem are normally damage related due to the frame twisting due to not lubricating or maintaining the frame and if you know how to fix it them they work well ...those that have converted back to manual often regret it but saying that I can probably put a annual roof up and down far quicker than an electric one but not as flash I guess
