I wonder if anyone can help. When BMW launched the new shape 3 series on the S plate I received a bottle of BMW 3 series Champagne from the dealer which is the one used at the launch event. Can anyone let me know if this of any interest to anyone and even is it worth anything?

Like any other champagne, it is worth whatever someone thinks it is worth - and like any champagne, it is a mistake to save it for years, as it should be consumed when young.  A lot of old champagnes must taste like vinegar, but they are for trading and profit-making - not drinking!

In terms of value, I would suggest about £5 a bottle - unless you think a BMW label makes it worth more!

We once bought some 30 Euro a bottle Mercier champagne in Epernay, and held a blind tasting against our  favourites from the south of France, Blanquette de Limoux (about £1.50) and Sire de Beaupre (about £1) - our friends either preferred the cheap alternatives, or placed the genuine Champagne on  par with the Limoux!

There is nothing wonderful about Champagne - it is just a bubbly white wine from a particular area of France - other areas produce equivalent or better wines, without the mark-up.

It's the same with Beaujolais Nouveau - a triumph of PR hype over taste.
A Z3 is not just for Christmas - it's for life!

A Champagne vinyard owner in Epernay - who had a good sense of humour - asked me what we drank, and after being told 'Blanquette de Limoux' replied that it was identical to his product - 'But of course they can't call it Champagne!'
