You need to sort the bonnet catch out. Apart from that the car looks fantastic!

i spent much of the day holding the fort at the trackday register display but once i was free this atlantis touring stood out like a sore thumb (in a nice way) its stance, gold splitties, atlantis paintwork and the fact it was a sporty looking touring just did it for me! it was only eclipsed (for me anyway) by that horny looking e91 m3 touring........yes......e91 m3 touring which was parked up on the road into gaydon. i think bmw should take a bit of notice to true bmw enthusiast's and produce something to rival audi's rs4 avant a nice 328i sport touring with nice wheels and striking paintwork is deffo on the right track |

Thank you Ian - awesome comment and much appreciated! I too loved the look of the e9x M3 Touring, the owner is a lovely guy as well. I had a sit in it and he wanted a swap - unfortunately only colour wise. You are correct that BMW need to rival Audi's RS4!!!

I have a friend that is very good with material etc.; I asked her if she could have a go at colour coding some leather for the car. All she asked in return was that I made her a cake. I think she has done a great job, now i need to make her a cake. :P For a very long time I have been after some sill covers of the M3 style, these are OEM from an e36 saloon. Prices new are utterly ridiculous. I took the old ones off and only managed to break 3 clips – which meant a trip to BMW service dept. When taking the rears off I realised I had to snap the screw in style one so these were bought. Slightly grubby… All sills are in great condition though: Part no. Looking quite good! I have also had it on a rolling road with Jason @ B&W Chiptune to see what the power output is. I know it's a good engine with no leaks etc and have only had the M50 manifold conversion done. I was very impressed with the results: 222.8BHP!!!!

Well I have succumbed to a bit of a cleaning bug. Not on the level that some are accustomed to but the longer I delve into articles, attend car shows and see how far others take it I seem to be getting a little better each time.
In readiness for Gaydon I decided to tackle the boot area first. My weapons of choice were good ol' Auto Glym, Leather balm, Menzerna and 303 Aerospace protectant. Emptied everything out and got to it. Wipe down, hoover, wash, dry, used the menzerna to try and get some brightness back and then waxed it over. I gave the rear shelf above the spare wheel well a good hoover and put it back. Next up was the back seat behind the driver - this is my little boys haven... I hoovered it out, took the mat out and hoovered that. Balmed the leather - including the extended door leather and buffed. Used the 303 on the plastics, door sills, plastic inserts, seat backs, around the door and the replaced rear cigarette container. Still need to clean his car seat but put it back for now. I then moved on to the drivers area, hoovered all around, took the mat out and hoovered that, balmed the leather including the steering wheel and extended door leather. I used the 303 on the plastics but haven't got as far as the centre console or the dashboard yet. So, I spent 3 hours on this and its nowhere near finished. TBC. |

Well day 2 of cleaning...it was all going so well!
I thought it would be a good idea to take off the m-tec rubbing strips to give it a decent clean up and see what's what. Not too bad it seems: I gave them all a good clean and wipe and blackened them up with Meguiars tyre gel. Did both sides: Also the front: Came up really well. Naturally, apart from the front all these side mouldings are held on with these funny clips and the rubber bungs, which were all cracked, ripped or just not there  . The clips bar 3 had all broken so a swift phonecall to my local BMW shop and ze germans are shipping them and will be here on Friday. I also had to touch up a few bits of flaky paint which would easily turn to rust. The front of the car looks much cleaner now: I managed to clean the dash and the right hand floor parts, pedals, dials and all other bits. The steering wheel needs some more feed and the passenger side I haven't even touched yet. I also got underneath and gave the exhaust a spruce up... |

Well not much done today apart from the wheels. I cleaned them up 1st and the added some wax as I was never a fan of Poorboys sealant thingy. Buffed them up with a lint free cloth.
I put the tyre gel on already as I like it to sink in a little before driving. I wont drive it now before Sunday. The to do list as it stands: Passenger side area, hoover, leather balm including the door. Rear seat and area behind the passenger, leather balm, including the door. Sort out the kids dvd's as they are all in the wrong covers and too many of them. Wash the car Give the roof some Mezerna as it is a little flat. Sort all the windows inside and out Door shuts Petrol filler cap to Kos' standard - not sure if that's possible. Then drive to Gaydon |

Well an emergency phone call to Dips regarding the broken clips and he organised them for me. Pulled it out of the bag at the last minute (well he did!!!!!).
The plan was to meet Vlad the impaler at Beaconsfield at 7:00am - but for some very strange reason WE DIDN'T?!?!?!?!? We realised we had missed each other and soon met up on the m40 but I had to enter Gaydon with 4 pieces of side trim missing. Oh well, could be worse. Rolled into the CC stand and got cleaning, got the clips, on went the side trims and on with the show. |

Went to BMW today and exchanged the clips that they sent in error. No problems there and they had them in stock as well
Also fitted another part of the interior on my crusade to reduce the amount of wood. Took out the front ashtray as it is never used and with kids in the car little storage pots are always handy. So I will let the pictures do the talking: Such a silly little mod that has made a big difference and an OEM part as well - very pleased with it. Edited by FwordM3 - 03 Nov 2013 at 9:21pm |

Ok so this has been a long time coming...
Finally I have purchased an M3 engine (3.0ltr). After 6 months of intensive daily searching I found one for the right money as scarily e36 m3's were starting to go up and way out of my budget. I started looking at just m3 engines but they were £2k and needed to see it running when along came a....I can only describe it as a shed! No MOT or TAX and the seller didn't want to break it, just wanted it gone (perfect). I put in my max bid and got a fair bit under it which was a positive start. The problem was it was in Port Talbot - a fair journey so I asked Dips and Vlad into helping me out. With some mileage money a loader is sorted and Vlad goes up to check it out before money is handed over. He phoned me about 10am saying it has a misfire but there are no knocks (which was the main focal point). The car - 4 door saloon originally registered as a 318i which had the engine moved across (these welsh!!!!). I think the spoiler will command a few £1000 on ebay!!!! The engine will be kept in the car until it is running properly with all the necessary changes and new parts being put on it (gaskets, water pump, rad etc....). Once this has been achieved the process of moving it over to mine can take place, if then, there are any issues with the engine we will know they are fresh problems. It isn't looking tidy but it will: I have bought some other little trinkets and will post them up later. Thanks for looking - I can't wait! |
