Hello,
I have a rectangular tray bolted onto the bottom of the engine running side to side & from the back of the front wheel to the front suspension. Is this called an oil deflector? The issue is that the tray is screwed in with bolts at the back but the front is not bolted, and hanging down. There are bolt threads coming out of the engine supports(?) to take nuts: but they look damaged. Does anyone know about this? Adrian. |

No Adrian - the oil deflector is an aluminium casting inside the engie, at the base of the block. It seperates the crankcase frmo the sump, and so prevents large movements of oil under the influence of cornering and/or braking. It also carries the oil pressure relief valve.
You are looking at an undershield, designed to reduce air turbulence below the car, and obviously the front mounting nuts have been left off. If you cannot get nuts of the correct size to fit, and the damaged threads are not on the end of bolts, you will have to get hold of a die to restore the thread form, or unscrew them with a stillson wrench. Hello Mike,
Thanks for that. I live in a CPZ in inner London so I am limited to what I can do! - but I can do this!
Best Adrian. |
