I’m considering purchasing an outdoor car cover for a 5series tourer, no garage. I wonder if anyone might offer some advice on purchase and use of an outdoor car cover, I’ve read that there could be a risk of condensation and mildew damage in the interior of the car. The car has only completed a couple of hundred miles in the last couple of years and will not be used much, perhaps the request is two years late!

I had a exterior cover from BMW for my E92 335D and have also a BMW exterior cover for my E65 B7. The bigger the car the more the risk of wind getting under the cover and it either blowing partially off or rubbing the paintwork. There are no fixing point of the ones I have so unless one has a strap to go right under the car it is liable to those issues. Yes condensation does get under the cover and its advisable to remove it regularly and dry off the vehicle when possible. The balance it is keeps Bird and other dropping off the paint, leaves, twigs, foliage and other rubbish off the car. I would rather have one that not but long term exterior storage needs good management. Fortunately I moved to a house with a garage and now my 7 series in under cover and my E39 I don't cover at all. Not sure if any of this is great advice, just weigh up to pros and cons based on your own quality of vehicle and where you leave it. I have massive Oak Trees, we have Seagulls, Foxes and Squirrels as in grounds of a park.

This company advertises through the club ~ https://www.carcovershop.co.uk/Fully-tailored-BMW-covers.asp

You've not specified which 5 series model you own, but I have used the site filter for a BMW 5-SERIES G30/31 saloon/estate : to give you an idea of prices
