Hi,

I’ve just purchased a 69 plate BMW 225xe iPerformance Sport Active Tourer from a dealership. It was originally registered in January 2020 and before I purchased the car I asked to ensure that it was the new 10kWh version; and was told ‘yes’.

I picked up the car last night but would like to somehow verify this. Is there anyway I can check?? Nothing in the documentation confirms the actual battery capacity fitted that I can see.

It’s already driven 5k miles and the indicator suggests the battery range is 25 miles on a full charge. If I consider the outside temp is around 7 degrees this feels ok however I just worry that  the garage might have reset the battery efficiency information and that this is actually a fully charged 7.7kWh version that has yet to calculate the real world range!

I’m perhaps being over sceptical but would just like piece of mind before it’s too late and I can’t go back to the dealership. I’ve looked up the co2/kg levels on the tax website (I don’t have the new V5 yet) and it states 42; which I think is within the range of the 10kWh version but it’s hard to find anything conclusive.

Any help or advice on if there is somewhere on the cars itself that I can access and check would be much appreciated!

Thanks,
Jamie

The press blurb for the newer 10kWh battery is a range of just over 30 miles so my guess is that yours is only the 7.7kWh. And to back that up, who would ever trust what a used car sales person says?

When I bought my last vehicle I commented on the DPF. The salesman did not correct me but then I already knew that that model year did not have the dreaded DPF fitted.

I thought about getting the f30 330e to try some other engine version for a change, as i have had a petrol E46 323i, E90 325d & now a F30 335d. After being told the electric range was about 30 miles, I decided against it,as that is just rubbish.

If the DPF is removed from a vehicle now it is an mot failure

Thanks. The expected range is 32 miles but that’s the WLTP rating; which is always going to be overstated.

I’ve looked in to it a bit more and managed to check the co2 level on the vehicle tax registrar at gov.uk. It’s states that’s it’s registered as 42 g/km which is the 10kWh version as the 7.7kWh version was 57 g/Km, so is hopefully all ok.

I’ll put the 25 miles down to outside temperature and the impact this has on the batteries. Looking at other forums the 7.7kWh started off at about 17 miles

This note shows that I do not attend the 'Club Functions' very often...
So hopefully your concerns have already been assuaged! But just in case:
My dear old thing has now covered nearly 15,000 miles and was purchased second hand (a demonstrator) with 6,600 miles on the clock in May 2020.
It was first registered in September 2019.
I had my own 'pensive moments' about the battery size initially and failed to find a definitive way to confirm (during the inevitable 'buyer's remorse process...' ) the claimed 10Kwh.
But my experience over the intervening period has convinced me that the BMW Boys were playing a straight bat.
The car claims a range of 25 ish miles after a full recharge. The ambient  temperature makes a very slight (one or two miles) difference.
The marketing 'puff' of 32 miles remains a measure and feature of the general weakness of our so-called 'Regulatory Authorities'!!
