Hello all!

I'm new to the BMW fraternity after purchasing my Z3 2.0 in May after leaving ( with great difficulty!) My previous car, a cossetted and supremely well looked after Alfa 156. I'm hoping the general running costs and repairs will be easier on my wallet, as the Alfa demanded things to be fixed, even if on most other marques you could leave it well alone!

Anyway, the questions at hand - my Zed isn't a garage queen and I'm aware it has various foibles that will need attending to, some more pertinent that others ( which I'll probably mention in future posts) but the first port of call and point of concern is an oil leak.

I regularly get small drips and eventual pools of oil underneath the engine and at the front, and after much digging I suspect it may be the oil filter housing gasket. Would that be the most likely culprit?

Perhaps in relation to this, with my frequent and fastidious topping up of levels, the low oil sensor seems intermittent and often lights up randomly during driving or after I park up. Is that just a sensor on the blink?

Oh its currently on 120k miles.

Welcome to the club. Zeds are quite easy to work on with basic knowledge. Difficult to assess oil leaks but the filter housing gasket would be a cheap fix so would be a good place to start.
