Apart from Portugal and Finland, all eU countries have signed up  for the Cross-Border Policing agreement.  This means that you can now be prosecuted for offences in other EU member states - but not given penalty points.

For details see:

Since this came in, been flashed by 3 speed cameras, heard nothing.  Guess they don't care about the small fines.

Whilst not encouraging anyone to break the law, I often wonder how it is proved that the alleged recipient of any fine by mail has received it? That is if not signed for?

I heard of someone who received two letters in standard post saying they had committed a speeding fixed penalty, they simply shredded them. They never heard about it again.

In the event someone was required to sign they could simply answer the door and say the person no longer lives there or just sign in the wrong name or even get someone else to sign and then "forget" to pass on the letter. The prosecuting authority seems to rely upon the fear factor and integrity of the motorist to own up? I suspect that in the majority of case most people do and they are not being banned and just see points and fines as an inconvenience and a fact or driving or a stealth tax.

Er.  Postie wants a signature before he shows the item.  We get up to six deliveries a day.

For most of us it is the cameras on UK roads that we have to worry about.  And I don't just mean speed cameras.  The only ones I don't have an issue with are traffic light and pedestrian crossing cameras but I can count on the fingers of two hands how many cars I've seen going through red when other side is green.

Congestion charge, ULEZ, bus lane, yellow box and now time of day entry restriction cameras.

These are not all on SATNAV and if you drive into a London Borough keep your eyes peeled.  Croydon make £1,000,000 out of one camera alone or was it £3M.   Local paper ran story about one man who took them on and won.  Like Croydon care, it is just taxation.  Every LB road is 20mph now.  SatNav will tell you 30.  So watch out.

Fit dash cam and say the video file is too big to attach to your appeal, but you could upload it to YouTube.

After many years of driving everyday to London Blackfriars, when not travelling on business, I am glad I now never have the need or desire to drive into London Boroughs. However, cameras can only detect number plates, not no plates. I saw a mondeo yesterday in Guildford no plates whatsover on it, not a policeman in sight.

About 60 departments in France are expected to revert to 90 kph speed limit on many roads, while onlyseven have voted to retain it.  Keep your eyes open for speed limt signs!

France has issued almost 250,000 requests to the  UK for details of vehicle owners who have been caught by speed cameras etc in the six months folllowing the cross-border agreement and also before that date.

Although les gendarmes cannot enforce fines in UK magistrates courts, or add points to licences, they can issue on the spot fines if such an offence is picked up during a roadside check of documents.  Maximum fines - such as when exceeding the limit by 30 mph, can result in fines of 1500 Euros.

Remember that France does not apply 'Goodwill' tolerances such as the usual UK level of 10% plus 1 mph, a 2 kph reading being sufficient to collect a fine in town, or 5% on the autoroute.

Yes great glad I have no intention of travelling there, although most people I have spoken to this year who have seem pretty undeterred and uninterested. There are so many letter being sent out those who ignore them dont get chased up and there is a statutory amount of time to serve the notice. Dont accept letters, sign for nothing, admit nothing, register you car in the name of a business, the fine is against the person in the Uk and not the owner, keeper or company. This is just another stealth tax and its one I do not want to pay. However, if you break the law and get caught your have to accept the consequences.
