Howard Walker and Colin Cooper have kindly allowed North East members join their run out to Wensleydale on 25th March as part of the Tykes Tango Program. Meeting point is 9:30 at the The Ripon Spa Hotel, Park Street, Ripon, North Yorkshire, HG4 2BU. We leave at about 9:30 to 10:00 for a tour of the Dales ending up at Hawes. On the way there, you will pass through Middleham, Wensley, West Witton, Ayesgarth, Worton and Bainbridge. Jervauxl Abbey and its tea rooms, and the Black Sheep Brewery are on the route also, so lots of possible stops on the way there. You can have lunch at Berries farm shop, which you will also pass on the way there. Howard has made arrangements for us to eat there at around 2:30, and will need to reserve tables in advance, so please let Howard know if you are attending at howard@bmwcarclubgb.co.uk Important note. Due to roadworks on the road into Ripon from the A1(M) junction with the A168 (Dishforth) road, which is signposted Ripon, Dishforth, members using the A1(M) and joining from the South are advised to take the junction with the A61 a few miles further north. The roadworks have no diversions signed, and the only way round them is through a very muddy lane called Berrygate Lane, complete with many mud filled potholes. Just a polite note about travelling our Yorkshire roads. Some are very narrow with passing places. If you land on one of these, stay two passing places between cars or you could have problems when meeting oncoming cars. Please travel in groups of one car, at least 400 yards between you and the next, and respect the roads, some of which may have deep water running over them, and most will have potholes of various depths. Watch out for pedestrians, cycles, sheep and Land Rovers that do not know how wide they are, which inhabit the area. It’s not a rally or race. Some hills are steep and you may at times not be able to see over your bonnet! |
