My E30 had to spent some time under a car cover recently but due to water entering the boot via the aerial, I had to put a second none breathable cover over the back of the car. Unfortunately, this second cover looks to have damaged the paint on the boot lid, as I can only describe what looks to be ingrained marks with the paint which seem reluctant to be removed either by using Metallic T-cut or using a Meguiars clay bar and a polish afterwards. The question is, is there way to remove these marks or is it just case or having to have the boot lid repainted?

hi Phil

Would you be able to take some photos & post them on here please, i may be able to help you further with this. I was a valeter for main dealers for over 20 years before going on my own.

Or if you prefer you can email them to me.

regards
Rich

Hi Rich,
I'll get some photos taken over the weekend and I'll see how successfully I am in uploading them here, failing that I'll email them to you if you let me have your email?

Thanks

Phil

Hi Phil
It's been a while since we last spoke. Was wondering if you have progressed on this?

Hi Rich,

I finally got the car on the road this weekend, but the nightmare continues. This whole episode relates to my trip to Le Mans last year where I inadvertently ripped a large hole in the sump of my car after clipping a low kerb. The problem now is that the fan which had taken chunks out the original top hose on the engine has done exactly the same again so despite me have spent the best part of a £1000 fixing it (new to me sump, oil pump, labour and other parts), I now am facing another large bill trying to workout if its the fan moving or engine mounts to blame and as it's stands I've not the money nor inclination to look at it so I've parked up for the foreseeable.

Thanks for you follow up and I'm sorry I've not got any good news in relation to looking at the paint work but obviously the problems described above take priority.

Sorry to hear your having engine problems again & I know what it feels like to have these problems. I recently bought new rear shocks due to one leaking,so changed that so I could still use my car as it is my daily. I then ordered from BMW everything for the top mounts along with new bump stops & tubes, then when I had a spare weekend changed it all over. I thought yeah great that's another job out the way, only to find that it was rock hard when driving over speed bumps. After looking at it again I could see the dust tubes were very badly squashed. So back to BMW to buy new bump stops & tubes as it is a value kit about £30 then to my local garage to get them to have a look at it & sort out the problem another £36. I thought me doing it would save me some money but in the end cost me more .

Regards
Rich

Thanks for reply Rich, as the old saying goes 'these things are sent to try us.' In the case of our BMW's it can usually be assumed it's neither cheap or a quick fix.

Best of luck with your E46.

Hi Phil
I totally agree with you, with regards to my e46 & your e30 the years are setting into them where we don't know what's going to go wrong next & the cost involved.
