An exceptional car ..... absolutely beautiful condition. I get attached to my motors and that would definitely be a keeper. Although I never say never! ;)

Thread resurrection!! Below is a good article with a comparison of all the M5's to date. http://www.classicandperformancecar.com/bmw/m5/5938/bmw-m5-generations-e28-to-f90-tested-at-anglesey In the article they drive a lovely Avus blue 3.8 E34 M5. I think this is probably the BMW GB owned car that was talked about earlier in this thread. An MOT check reveals that the car has only done 6000 miles!! although the MOT ran out in 2014. All of the other M5's except the E28 M5 are part of the BMW GB heritage fleet to the best of my knowledge. |

A rare update for this car.
I noticed a few years ago that the rear exhaust box had seen better days. The outer skin of the rear box was on its way out and although the exhaust wasn’t blowing it would clearly need to be changed at some point in the future. I guess it's lasted well as it's nearly 30 years old at this point. I priced up a rear muffler and it was showing in stock in Germany for about €600. As it was not a pressing issue I decided to put it on the long finger and replace the muffler when it actually needed it. That turned out to be a costly mistake. This month I checked again to see if BMW still had the rear muffler. “The rear muffler is NLA now, but you can buy an entire exhaust system for €1250 plus VAT!!!” I was kicking myself that I didn’t buy the rear muffler when I had the chance and learnt a hard lesson in the process. If I think I will need an old ///M part in the future and it’s still available, I am just going to buy it. It seems that parts for older cars are going NLA on an almost daily basis. I checked with the dealer and asked how many entire exhausts that the had in stock. “29 in Germany he replied” I decided that I wasn’t going to make the same mistake twice and bit the bullet and ordered the part, it was a big expense that I wasn’t expecting. My fear is the the exhaust would go NLA and I would be forced into buying a SS system for the car which in my view would be sacrilege for such an original car. The exhaust arrived today and it’s a big lump of metal. While I was at it I ordered a fitting kit and 6 new OEM brake flexi's. I will be left with a very good exhaust centre section which I will need to dispose of if anyone is looking for one. 6 new Brake pipes and exhaust fitting kit.
