Reading between the lines: Shell are giving BMW a better deal on factory fill oil.

So much for those impressionable people who used to swear by Castrol as being the only oils suitable for their BMW!  Last week they - and BMW dealers - would not countenance using Shell lubricants, but now they are the 'only' approved lubricants.  No doubt Shell gave BMW a lower price for initial fill and delaer supply oils.

The same situation arose when BMW climbed into bed with Castrol . . .

And at some stage it will all change again......as long as the spec is correct just use what you prefer or can get at the lowest cost!

Think about what you can do for the club, not what it can do for you...

It is all down to how much money / profit BMW can make, one only has to see the price of spare parts etc to realise its a numbers game. Ouch

I go for Halfords oil, and wait until they're on offer before stocking up. It all comes from much the same place anyway.

Andrew in fairness it will depend on your engine and how and where you use it and the age of the car it's not that simple - I am aware that a lot of my stuff is not your normal use but still it's worth paying to prolong engine gearbox and diff life

Don't agree that oil is oil.

To a degree I would agree between brands.  However there will be a difference between Asda's best and Shell, Castrol, Mobil .....

I see that the oil SHELL supply BMW, appears in bottles marked M Twin Power Turbo 10w-60!
Yet in the open market its branded as SHELL Helix Ultra Racing 10w-60, are these the same?

It's all a business at the end of the day. Same as with Mercedes. They have been Mobil one for years and years. Hey presto they are moving to Petronas.
