I have been asked by Andre, the ever helpful parts manager at Sandal BMW Huddersfield if anyone in the club has any experience of fitting a supercharger to a 635Csi. He has a customer who has successfully converted it from Auto to manual, and the next stage is to fit a turbo charger. If you have any experience and woul like to assist, please let me know by PM and I will put you in touch.
One club member some 10 tears back, who was a regular at the Croft and other track days, did it, but I cannot remember his name. He had a Dolphin Grey M635 and slick tyres, but my aged memory will just not recall his name. Does anyone else know? Nick has just said he was called Ron, was a steel erector from Rickmansworth and worked on roller coasters? Still cannot bring him to mind Would make a great article for the magazine if it comes off. Sorry Howard but do you mean a supercharger or a turbocharger as they are different things?
If it's a turbocharger, then BMW turbo'd the six cylinder for their 745i model in SA. I don't know if anyone has ever supercharged one though. |

Its an old E24 from the 1980s, so I doubt that the newer kit would fit
the older engine, which is why I called it a Supercharger.
See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:1968_AMX_blown_and_tubbed_e.jpg for a sample. Turbo chargers are as described on this page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turbocharger Sorry if the links are not live, but one of my plug ins seems to have crashed. Should work in a browser though. Old or new engine super charger and turbo charges are the same
Turbos run of the exhaust Superchargers are belt driven Marcel with the turbo charged e28 is the man to help should he want to get involved. Not wanting to put a downer on this but converting from auto to manual is a walk in the park compared to forced induction. The costs spiral out of control and there are many things to consider. Personally I'd look at putting an s38 or s62 in the car. |
