The Wings & Wheels weekend at Dunsfold, Surrey is this weekend Sunday 26th & 27th August 12. You will probably know this better as the location for the BBC TV "Top Gear". It is location between Guildford and Horsham. This is a large event with cars of all types, activities and air display.
Tim Maltby and I will be going on Sunday, if anyone is interested and wants to join us please let me know. You can find the full schedule on their web site www.wingsandwheels.net. If you need help or have any questions please do call me 07831 142 401 or email norman947@btinternet.com

We will be making and assessment to see if this is the kind of event which would be of interest to members and perhaps with a view to displaying next year.

I think this would be a terrific venue to have some representation at in future years.

Unfortunately I cannot make it this year and I must confess until seeing your post I didn't know it existed even having once lived near Dunsfold for 13 years !!!

Have a great time, i'm not too sure about the weather?

Cheers
Graham

Graham, no problem. I have to confess I have lived 6 miles away and never been. Indeed it is only that I joined this Club that I have attended anything to do with cars at all. I am only in it for the social side I know nothing about cars or engines technically. I love BMW cars and I think it is great there are some many different models and aged cars in the Club. Unfortunately there are not enough active members in the Wessex region and we would like more, I am very pleased that the numbers parked in the Wessex Region at Gaydon and in all the other specific sections increased this year. If you are in our region still, please do feel free to come to anything and indeed even if you are not you would be made welcome as would any member or potential member.

Yes, Wessex was well represented this year, I believe only three last year? Whilst I am officially in the Wessex region I went to a number of South East events in years gone by.  Some events can be a bit 'same old, same old'.  I say this with complete admiration for any organisers and appreciate the difficulties of adding some extra ingredient each time so I tend to limit my events to a few.  The former dealer principle at Chandlers, Angmering was very keen to get involved with the car club but has sadly moved on.

In this area we have Shoreham Air Show, Goodwood and now Dunsfold, perhaps with Gaydon as well these are a few venues that could be nurtured? Maybe with the odd treasure hunt thrown in now and again it might be possible to maintain a reasonably healthy interest in this region?

Just some thoughts!

Cheers
Graham

Yes I appreciate it must be difficult to organise things and the bigger the event the more complex. Personally I am only involved with what our group might be doing and that is only if I am asked to help.
It is very difficult as people want and expect different things and different standards I guess. I have spent the last year trying most things and attending every kind of event that was in my region of the major ones. That helps me make up my mind those I think are worth my money and those which do not interest me. We have done a fair few things in the Wessex and I can honestly say I have enjoyed them all and know exactly what to expect. If one attends a lot of things it can be a fairly expensive hobby, so it's important to maximise those events which are each individuals preference.

The tickets in advance are cheaper and include parking 18 pounds for a ticket which can be used either Sunday or Monday, but not both. 40 pounds in advance for a family ticket. Opens 0900 am closes 2100 pm, which works out at 1.50 per hour which seems like reasonable entertainment value.

What a great day at Dunsfold, super air display with last flying Vulcan bomber and two MCRA Tornados. The battle of Britian flight spitfire and hurricane with Avro Lancaster.
A good number of car club displays, Bugatti, Bentley, Astom Martin, Toyota (with sponsored stand), Ford classics, lots of room for more cars next time. Motorbikes. Cars beating up the runway was good to watch. A Douglas DC3 plane flew in and allowed people to go on board when parked. Plenty of food seeler and beer if required, kids fun fair and dodgems. Military vintage vehicle display UK and Amercian. Well organised and good vlaue we had 10 hours fun for equivalent of 1.80 per hour for adults or 1.00 per hour per per per family.
Thanks to those who could make it from the Wessex.
