Hi Ron - the 2.8 coupe was never imported to the UK, which was a pity.

IT can not be that complete if it misses out the Z1, which was on sale from 1988
As per my previous post.

This book covers the Z1 in great detail - Ron was referring to the Z3.

His first post mentioned the Z was introduced in 1996, Z3 was not mentioned.

Hi Brian---YOU are correct--Z1 WAS the first "Z" available in UK, it was ahead of its time and a success in a driving "Drivers Car" feel--low sales sad to say , meant that AG wanted a volume roadster which became the Z3.
Hope to see You--at club events so everyone can appreciate the unique lines.

Ok lets get this straight I was referring to the Z3 not the Z1, thought that.s what the thread was about. Or was Zs in general? Yes Mike I did no that the Z3 coupe was only in ZM form in the UK. Should have put a coma Mike- 1998. 2.8, Z3M Coupe and ZM roadster. Could not have been talking about the Z1, no 2.8 or a 1.9 in a Z1 just the 2.5! and the book says Z1 1987!!! Just looked another book ( Driving Machines) it says Z1 first show at the 1987 Frankfurt Motor Showand first deliveries made in March 1989 RonZ |

Well, now that we have established that the word Zed covers Z1 and Z3, funny no one mentioned 4 or 8, the important thing is to get back to talking about some meetings or drives out!
Mike, shame you try to put a dampener on group drives never mind casting unfounded comments about the lack of miles we all drive in our cars. I'll forgive you over the champagne comments though! I use to be in the MX5 club and we had some very enjoyable trips, 12 - 15 cars and we all found our own pace. The same with my bike riding trips, we ride at our own pace and meet up at predetermined spots and do NOT favour the BMW (Bike) clubs preference of drop-offs! As for the comment about attracting police attention.....well where are the police these days? Its mainly static speed cameras. |

I've never been a fan of group drives, and I'm not the only one!
As you say, the best way is to make your own way, or maybe with a couple of known people, and meet at a pre-arranged place. The fixation about large groups of cars - or bikes - is something to do with a herd mentality, or people who don't know where they are going, and/or don't have a map, satnav, or any idea of the route! MX5 owners seem to be in a different league from Z3 owners - I always meet lots of them on my travels around mountain passes etc, and they are all very friendly. I've lost count of the number of Z3 owners who ignore my wave, even when there is no other traffic around. Maybe they don't think it is 'cool' to return the courtesy. Anyway - if you are ever in the Dordogne area, call by for a cheapo champagne-type lunch! Edited by Mike Fishwick - 18 Jan 2010 at 4:32pm |

Jay you may forgive MF but as a regular on the clubs champers run I cannot agree and cannot therefore " forgive you(MF) over the champagne comments though!
These trips must take JeffH ages to plan and they run like clockwork. we get into 'houses' and enjoy visits which one could not if went without the club.
As for drinking 'cheapo champers ask yourself WHY when the proper stuff & I do not mean Moet etc but the proper stuff from local villages small producers etc is simply moreish.
And the trips are made even better with the people having common interest in BMW.
Rant over.
Now shall I go look over the Z3MC in its isolation chamber or pop a cork???

Yes Steve - I've been on one Champagne trip myself, and was not criticising Jeff's hard work in organising them. Please read my comments again!
I just think that Champagne is over-priced for what it is, but that does not take away the excellent marketing visits to places such as the Mercier caves. It's like Chatauneuf du Pape - 15 Euros a bottle and superb - but another red wine, made from the same grapes, but grown on the other side of the road, is identical, and costs 6 Euros. The same in all but name - and price! We have had several blind tasting sessions, where friends have brought expensive champagne, and could not distinguish it from the 1.30 Euro local produce. There is nothing wrong with drinking 'cheapo' stuff, so long as it tastes good - and every reason to do so if your sense of value for money is well-developed. |

5 Pages, 44 posts. 721 views! but who has got involved ? Nothing has been organised OK we are having a great display at Gaydon of Coupes. Yes this may be the biggest thread on the Z series forum, but that is about it. No meet organised, I did mention that the Z3 is 15 years old next year. I have a look at Z roadster.net but I dont post much try to stay true to the Car Club forum. |

Ron--agree with your comments and I want to encourage with others like us!!--get a national programme of events that interest our Z owners.
We All know that you can never please ALL owners on the event/meeting subject---But perhaps we need a regional Z owner who will be prepared to be THE area co-ordinater for ALL things Z register.
WE should be having a monthly meet day/evening , to plan what can be achieved in the next months. With so much pressure on keeping a job and paying the bills, E-Mails can keep everyone in contact on a regular basis.
A regions event for a tour in their area, can be co-ordinated into a national meeting--before departing back into a regional area??

Yesterday was the Drive and Dine attended by 13 people on a freezing cold night - a good evening enjoyed by one and all. How many replies did I get from my posting here ---- ZERO -- as usual.
In all the years I have been arranging these events the response from this forum is consistently ZERO.
I am not encouraged but will keep plugging away as usual.
There are 24 plus Zs meeting in Yorkshire for a weekend in early April - anyone attending? - I am
How about Scotland in late may - about 20 attending that one - any takers?
Late June a weekend in the Peak Districts based at Hartington.
Let me know if you want to come and I'll see what I can do.
I agree with the number of views and posts and total lack of positive activity.
Rant over.

I have just looked up on line and only 297,087 Z3s were built world wide so how many in the UK I don't know. It does make the Zed quite rare! RonZ |
