Hello,
Does anyone know of a good insurance broker, website, company etc?
I want to renew my insurance but I made a claim on my policy in May 2009: I wrote the car off: nobody else involved! Thank you.
Adrian.

Hi Adrian, surprised that no-one has replied to you! Could try Performance Direct?

Adrian, there are a number in the Club magazine which are specialist BMW insurers, Footman James 0843 357 1241 or Classic Line 01455 639 000. I can neither recommend them or condem them. I have insurance with Direct line;mine is low as they take into account other insurance policies I have with them, home, buildings etc.
If you are under 25 and have written off a car you do get loaded insurance, no matter what the circumstances. Insurance is a real minefield because it depends on the number of claims being made at the time you renew your policy. My understanding from a Director of one of the large insurance under writers is that these companies have a floating fund. Lots of claims and the computer calculates and adjusts the premium. Most of them are just greedy and they change their tune to suit whatever you ask them for example, I was told that there was no discount for keeping a car garaged as my type of car the key is needed to steal it. Then I moved to somewhere without a garage, but with a 12 foot high wall, security gates and CCTV. Their computer has no category for in a "secure compound" so it is classed as parked in the street. It may be that the specialist people can deal with those kind of things, but I really suggest you punt around. Oh Aviva quoted me 995 pounds compared to the 349 I pay with direct line for example, same car, same no claims etc. When I asked the to justify the difference the person say "thats what it comes to", basically they don't care. |

I guess the thing also to remember is that any of these "specialist" insurance people are not actually the insurerer themselves, but a go between. However, the may have the skills that can unlock " the computer say's no"
