Hi all,
I have been a keen user of all season tyres and have been proven right ever since the beginning, especially now that they are so advanced and brilliant on snow, ice and rain and very good on dry tarmac, so I wonder if anyone agrees with me and has feedback in this regard. Especially after the recent bout of snow and ice, I feel that I will be fitting them to my recent aquisition, a E46 325Ci convertible. My only question mark is in regards to tyre size, since I will be fitting staggered MV1s soon to replace the standard rims; I should be able to get advice from my fitter, but will be grateful if anyone had any experience with these on this forum. Cheers! |

I have Michelin Cross-Climate+ on my daily (which does 25,000 miles a year), and it's even done a couple of track days and Ring trips on the same tyres.
They're never going to compete on track with a semi-slick, but the last a long time and cope very well with the cold & wet. Haven't had much snow to check their credentials in that aspect though. As for sizes, I'd just go for the standard sizes that are recorded on the door jamb. It usually shows the sizes & pressures for square & staggered set ups. Of course you could do what I do and have a second set of wheels/tyres an inch smaller (as long as they fit over brakes).

Hi Tony,
thank you for your reply. I do have the same Michelin tyres on my Volvo XC70, Mercedes E280 and Renault Avantime and can assure you that they are really good on snow, even when on rear or front wheel drive cars. Obviously I have no intention of using them for fast track performance runs, but will certainly fit them to the BMW. I will enquire with my supplier to make sure sizes are available. Cheers |

Hi All, First post to this forumn as a first time owner of a 330e MSport. Its the first decent car I have had and I am looking for some advice around Winter tires. I live in Cambridgeshire, famous for being flat and we generally have very mild winters.
BMW and a mechanic I know are telling me I absoltuley should buy specific winter tires and likely rims to swap them, whilst I can do that, its a bit of a faff! The reviews on all-season tires seem to suggest that in mild winters it will be fine and if ever the weather is really bad, I have a XC60 that is totally unbothered by any weather. I am looking at Michelin CrossClimate 3 Sport on all 4 corners and then getting a slime kit, is this a bad plan? More importantly is this safe?

In all the years (over 20) I've carried the slime/sealant kits, I've only once found it effective, and that was when I came out of work in London one evening to drive home to Liverpool to find a flat tyre.
I couldn't find any nail/screw, but could hear air escaping when I pumped it up, so used the BMW Mobility Kit in my Z4MC to seal it. The rest of the time I've been close / early enough to a tyre garage to repair/replace...or the gash/slice in the tyre was never going to be fixed by a little sealant (plus it's impossible to get sealant to work on the sidewall as it won't stick/travel that high. I have the space for a spare set of wheels, so run smaller wheels (18 vs 19) from about November to March (or earlier/later if I'm off to Europe). But there's no problem legally or otherwise with running all-seasons all year round. If you use the same wheels then you'll have the original TPMS to warn you of tyre pressures anyway.
