I think what you are doing is good, I could not see it working here whatsoever. Those that are interested enough will throughout the summer go to events at the weekend. I think also the traffic congestion in the south is something that needs to be factored. Example was it took me 3hrs and 15 minutes to get home from Gaydon to West Sussex, near Gatwick.
I would not wish to spend 6 and half hours travelling to an from Gaydon and therefore I combine nearly every Club event with something else to make it worth my while. I am just wishing to see if with the density of population we have in the Surrey, Sussex area if there are enough members to have a relatively local pub meet? I would have also encouraged members to attend the Dunsfold Wings and Wheels at the former home of Top Gear, near Guildford, however I shall be at Car Fest South for 4 days at Laverstoke Park in Hampshire which is at least in the Wessex region. Goodwood weekend also clashed with my trip to the Alpina factory at Buchloe, but we normally go to that. Perhaps there is just too much choice and I also have Silverstone season ticket which is preferable to cars parked in a field for me. But we shall see what we can do, if there is indeed any interest? Just way of example I had to get a lady from the West Berkshire cruisers to lend her M3 Evo to BMW dealer as not one person from the club volunteered to help. She was delighted and got a Z4 loan car from them, so one can only try. |

Norrie - I think you are right that many people see Gaydon as chance to park with similar cars. I certainly do and know that was true for many of us in EA - including some committee members (!) My logic is that I see my regional friends quite regularly, so Gaydon is a good chance to look at some different cars and meet some new people. I still managed to see many EA friends parked with their respective registers, and indeed made some new contacts that way. I think its right that people have this choice.
Gary - Is that you with the black SE ? if yes, it was nice to talk to you at Gaydon.

To all those in SE region I wish you all the luck. It's sounds as if you have an uphill
Battle on your hands going by what has been said. Norrie you sound an active type of guy. Do you not fancy starting a branch of the region. We had a similar thing with pete skene in Aberdeen. Who championed the club up there but waste with some apathy that eventually saw pete giving it up. |

She's just discovering the delights of pocket money and (honestly (!)) is very keen to boost her funds by offering to complete all sorts of chores....... her attention to detail on the wheels was excellent - she was particularly keen to clear around the air filler nozzle. Way more focusses than her older brother.....

Personally whoever runs it needs help and the Branch meets give it that so anyone who fancies it or wants a meet locally I suggest they speak to Melvyn and with his blessing as I am confident will be given start a local branch meet on a date that suits - every day has issues - Mon Fri with work Tue Wed the football on TV...weekends people have stuff on...Sunday works for many as in Scotland - In N London when I ran it we tried several days to accomodate peope but best pick what works with the core and the others can join....so need to find some positive people who want to organise local meets - who is up for that - any volunteers of those who feel more should happen

Gary, I am not in the SE region, but in West Sussex which is in the Wessex region. We have two pub meets in our region which goes from Gatwick to Poole Dorset. One is near Bournemouth and one is near Basingstoke. I am looking to see if there is anything for Wessex members near where I am. I am not looking to enter the SE region or become involved with it as I have invested a lot of time with the Wessex.
Yes, Gary I do get involved in a lot of things, but people don't like hearing about them too much. It is one of the reason I try an confine myself to a special interest group and therefore do not feel the need to justify myself. A lot of people who live in my area do not work here, we are in the countryside. Most commute so I would need to know who they are and where they live before considering organising anything locally. I will ask the Club office for information and hope it is provided. |

I have asked the club for a list of members within 20 miles of the RH12 postcode, it will be interesting to see how many there are and then the interest.

I am indeed not trying to mend it, I am somewhat surprised that a pub in that is in West Sussex is chosen? However, it does not work for me a weekends, otherwise I would have probably come along.
How many people do you get there on average, where do they come from and are any geographically in the Wessex region. I am aware anyone can go anywhere. Where are the rest of the SE region pub meets, I appreciate Dorking is just up the road and probably in the SE region. I am just trying to see if there is something whereby for once I don't have to drive 110 miles for the pub meet, although it would not stop me going to the Wessex pub meet as it is always attended by a hard core of people, albeit mostly Alpina owners by coincidence or conversion. |

since the troubles the owl at kinsfold is the only pub meet we have a hard core of about 5 who turn up each month we have people who come from Bromley and also alton please put me right if I am wrong but I thought regions were based on post codes which puts the OWL AT KINSFOLD firmly in the SER

Selwyn, this is taken from the pubs web site
Dorking Road Kingsfold WEST SUSSEX RH12 3SA you are correct East Sussex is in the SE region, but West Sussex is not and this is West Sussex! I have lived about 3 miles from that pub for 10 years and I pass it 2-3 times a week. The more important thing is to see if there are anymore people who want to turn up, from what you describe it is yourself and two other couples or a combination of that sort? The lady from Alton and her husband came to the Basingstoke pub meet last Tuesday and we are going to theirs next week, she said her regulars had defected to Jaguar and numbers were dwindling. Perhaps, between us we can get a few more people? Would you come along to something in the week if it were in the same general area? Edited by Norrie - 22 Aug 2015 at 8:23am |

Would it not be a good idea to move this to the SE Region under a new thread title - Raising Awareness of SE region meets or how to attract more members in a region
