I have a recently purchased (AU) e93 with some corrosion on the windscreen / roof tray.

Its been caused by the rubber seal being contaminated and hardening over the years.  Looks as though it hasn't been cleaned in years, if ever.  This has eroded the paint, to the point where the base metal has oxidised.

Has anyone else suffered this?  Is cleaning the rubber seals a service action? (there is a TIS item for how to deal with seals and also for visual corrosion inspection, but cannot see if it is part of regular dealer maintenance actions)

I'm in discussion with the suppling dealer, but opinions welcomed.

n.b. My 21 year old e36 cab has NO signs of this type of wear and its seals get a clean once a year, they never look as bad as these.  These seals look like they haven't been cleaned ... ever.

Marc

The opp. seal - note discolouration and filth.
