hi all is it possible to change the steering rack to an electric one to lighten it up on a 2010 e90 320d i have fitted new tyres, new pump, and strut top mounting plates which has made a good difference so the last thing is a new rack it's done 154000 miles and when i got it it had the wrong fluid in it, the mechanic said the seals may have been damaged in the rack allowing some of the force [fluid] to slip back thus not giving enough pressure making the steering heavy, some others just say that the way they all are, back in 1999 i bought a brand one and the steering was fine so can't imagine in 11 years they have gotten worse,i am at the point of spending a lot more money on a 12 year old car or just sell it and go back to audi a4 any help would be great.

If you think the seals are damaged would a reconditioned rack be worth a try ?

yes a recon rack is the last step but i am trying to decide from the replies i get if its worth it when the cars both wheels are jacked up the steering is nice and free its only when the rubber hits the road it gets heavy so trying to work it out logically ,it appears to me that there is not enough pressure being applied to the rack and because i have fitted a new pump it can't be that .
