Hi all,

I know that trying to get insurance on a BMW at under 25 has always been an issue, however for both my E30 320i and E46 330ci (at separate times) have been cheapest through Admiral.

This is slightly annoying as they are very restrictive on modifications and don't take being a club member into account.

So I tried again this year with our car club insurance & no dice as I'm under 25 trying to insure a 3l despite having owned BMWs for almost 3 years and having BMW as our vehicle partner at work, so I drive a brand new 5 series every weekend.

It's just frustrating that the club doesn't tailor to its younger members at all and doesn't even state in the insurance info section that you're unlikely to get anything close to competitive if you're under 25.

I don't know how the club plans on attracting and expanding it's number of younger members when there are no incentives for us.

Rant over :)

Will

Hi Will, the club teams ups with Insurance brokers who are the bridge between the insured and the insurer. This works in certain cases well for some and perhaps not so for others. There are many factors which will determine the perceived "risk" for the insurer.

However, I do rather take your point and perhaps the Club could look at trying to make an arrangement with a broker or insurer specifically for those under 25.

I do not have any data on the average age of members but I am sure its well over 25.

Hi

Just to clarify we do insure under 25's generally speaking, we have policies from age 17. However, the larger engines etc and specialist policies we offer do require certain previous experience, or length of ownership, clean licenses etc depending on insurer. As younger drivers and higher power vehicles do increase the overall risk.

Sometimes the overall risk profile with a combination of factors will mean we aren't competitive or even unable to quote - as with all insurers, we can't win them all as much as we'd like to.

Appreciate you trying us, and hope we can help next year.

Carlie

Hi Carlie,

Thanks for your reply.

I'm unsure how much experience you require but I've owned BMWs for close to 3 years and have a clean licence.

It's all good in the end though I found a friendly insurer who understands me as a driver and gave me  a great price.

I will always consider you in the future with insurance and hope to be able to come to a satisfactory agreement.

Thanks,

Will
