Dear All, I hope that someone can help me out. I have a 1 series (F20) and the Engine Malfunction warning light has come on. I have been informed that it is a Vanos Fault, which is common on the mini (same engine). The Engine Malfunction warning light has now started to flicker, while driving. I found that the engine oil was low so I topped it up with 1 litre of oil. The light is still flickering while driving. Can anyone advise me further? I have spoken to my local BMW dealer and they do not seem to recognize this fault. Should I take the matter up with BMW UK? Any comments would be appreciated. If it's done over 50'000 miles, it will probably be a stretched timing chain. This engine was developed with PSA (Peugeot) and it's not the best thing ever. It's also found in Peugeot Citroen stuff. A new chain kit will probably sort it - it's not 'if' but 'when'. You're looking at about £600 to do it. Vanos unit faults are fairly rare, but they're not old cars yet.

Thank you for your reply.
It has done about 30,000 miles. I was told that the error is the same as the one on the mini as it shares the same engine. Any other ideas? |

Is your car under a BMW warranty? does it have FBMWSH? if so i would take it to your nearest dealer and get them to have a look and sort it out if it is not I would look for a reputable BMW independent specialist garage and get them to have a look at it as their labour charges will be a lot less than the main dealer if your out of warranty and on your own with it in terms of costs and support

Thank you for your advise, it does have FBMWSH.
I will contact the dealership, where it has been serviced. I will take it up with them. |
