Hi,
I've just bought a 120d M Sport and am loving it, but wondering whether it is feasible to retrofit cruise control (myself) to help with the long motorway miles... has anybody done this? If so what are the costs and how easy is it? Or, has anyone had the job done at a garage, and if so how much did it cost? Thanks in advance... |

Hi Adam,
I have the same car - since June 2008. and really loving it too.
The one fly in the ointment for me has been the lack of cruise control - especially on those long drives up to Scotland from here in West Sussex. Although I have to say I haven't suffered any aching ankles; the position of the gas pedal and its lightness are just perfect.
I have been contemplating a retro-fit for some time, mainly because I have had it on all my cars since 1994. Would really appreciate learning from someone else's experience on a retrofit for the 129d M.
Have you gone ahead yet? Edited by MalcolmZ - 12 Dec 2009 at 9:14am |

if you go to realoem.com put in your vehicles vrn it should provide the part numbers you need to get the parts to retrofit cruise control, but beware, be careful you put in the exact details of your car, otherwise you may get the wrong bits..

From previous experiences of BMWs there is normally a way to retro fit cruise.
Having said that, with all the ECUs etc on modern cars you may need to visit a dealer to have it "tuned in" to accept the cruise once you had it fitted.
Best advise would be from a friendly dealer as to whether it can be done. realoem will give you a guide price for the parts and may even show a retro kit.
I was lucky as I ticked the cruise option box on my 1. Edited by hennabm - 17 Apr 2012 at 8:44pm |

Try this: http://www.babybmw.net/viewtopic.php?f=29&t=23933&sid=5aade513411f73b13d9c0a3b2cd1a638 In order for you to have it coded, look on the net for someone who has bought the software and can code it for you for a few beers. Alot cheaper than dealers |

You'd be surprised at how reasonable the dealer coding price could be. All you need is the steering column switch cluster with cruise and a lower column trim. I reckon you could fit it yourself in less than an hour (Just be careful with the airbag).
Then try bargain with your dealer. Ask if they will code your car for 6 AWs (30 mins) max. It should never take them longer than that although they will try quote the BMW flat rate which is about 11 AWs (55 mins)
