The lowest quote I had on the various price comparison sites for my daily runabout (a 16 year old 318Ti Compact) was £440. Or, about what the car is actually worth. Aviva insured me last year for a barely acceptable £330, then decided to quote me £540 this year. So, they wanted to charge me £540 to insure a car worth £500, and still with a £250 excess. Hmmmmmmmm..........Bye Bye.

I also have two golden oldies - last year insured for £340 and this year they wanted £370.

I went to Classicline who added it to my classic policy...............£270 for the classics and £165 for the Compact. Now that's more like it!

I had a similar experience recently and ended up with Classicline who insured my Z4, M4 and Pimlico for less then some companies wanted for the Z4!

Think about what you can do for the club, not what it can do for you...

I have been with Classicline since I bought their MD's M3 9 years ago. I have always found them competitive and helpful and would reccomend them to anyone looking for a decent broker. as their name suggests they specialise in older vehicles but they are always worth talking to however old your car is.

I tried A,Plan in may as they were new to the car club, they would,nt insure my Feb 1994 M3 on a classic policy, so i stayed with Classic Line whose quote was the best i found. Smile

My advice would always be to 'phone around a few companies when it's insurance time, and also compare the covers / policy benefits as well as the price. It's also worth considering the service you get too. Beyond the obvious legal requirements insurance is about buying "peace of mind" so it's worth considering the potential service you might get should the unthinkable happen and you need to claim!
