The same way you would get it off your kids' hands . . .
The age and model of your car do not make any difference - why bother telling us? Edited by Mike Fishwick - 23 Jul 2016 at 11:19am |

I have a BMW X5 also that seems to have a lot better paint work than the X1, thought that the specs might be helpful to a detailer . Obviously you don't know otherwise you would have answered my question !

Ah - now we are getting the full story! You mean that your car is stained, not that you just have some sun tan oil on it! We do not have second sight . . .
I had Ambre Soliel spilt on my hellrot 2 Z3 in scorching sunlight, and removed it that evening in a campsite with water and Fairy Liquid - no problems. Perhaps your problem is that modern environmentally-friendly paints are easier to stain than older types, particularly is in sensitive colours such as white. at this stage you do not know if the staining is on/in the clear laquer or the base colour underneath, so iIf you have tried everything else, try using 600 wet & dry with soap on a small area, and see if it removes the staining, finishing off with something like Meguiars Scratch-X. IF this does not work, then perhaps the only answer is a limited respray. Whatever you find, please report it via this forum, as so many people never provide any feedback. |

You could try a non caustic TFR.

Traffic film remover as it's known in the valeting & detailing trade. It helps to get rid of grease etc.

I'd be interested to hear how this turned out. Not sure if a TFR would be strong enough. I'd be thinking maybe something like a strong mix of G101 or some tar remover which would possibly break down the grease and / or oils. In any case a cut, polish and wax would have to be next.

Managed to get it off with a clay bar , then super resin polish , fingers crossed it has stayed black with no more smears ! Result . Thank you to all who posted !
The paint on the X1 doesn't seem to have the depth of the X5 although the X5 is nearly 12 years old it still buffs up better . |

OP Just out of interest does your X1 have the life shine package on it? just asking as my fathers BMW had it on and we have noticed staining with things that should wipe off (fresh still wet bird poo, tree sap and some fresh berry juice neighbours kids decided on a blackberry fight and some hit his car) or clean away easily and have been blaming the life shine treatment for the feint staining change in shine on effected areas.

hi yes it does, never thought about it until now. The paint work seems flat compared with the X5 thought they had used cheaper paint.
The staining has come back although it did go away for a few days, I don't really want to get the car resprayed for it to happen again.

Might just be coincidence but sounds like the culprit. I would never have lifeshine myself but if i bought a car with it I would set about trying to remove all trace of it.
First off I would pre wash with an agressive non wax safe TFR or snow foam to try and break it down a bit. I would then two bucket method wash the car with a mitt using some Fairy Platinum washing up liquid as it high PH and a stronger than usual fairy in terms of concentrate this should remove all trace or it does with most other polishes when you want to start a fresh. I would then snow foam again and rinse before applying an ironx remover to get rid of any contamination to the paint. rinse and snow and rinse again. I would then two bucket the car with a fresh mitt and some gold class or autoglym bodywork shampoo/conditioner. Rinse then Dry Now depending on the state of the paint I would decided weather to clay it or not but if claying would go with a med/fine bilt hamber bar and claying lube Then if clayed would repeat the two bucket with the car shampoo and rinse and dry again (if doing by hand) would then polish the car some Autoglym SRP would give at least 3-4 coats I then would seal it off with a couple of coats of the Autoglym Gold (extra gloss protection) You could stop there but.. I would then go for a couple of coats of a decent hard wax either DodoJuice supernatural or Collinite marque d'elegance both excelleant by hand or machine and not a bank breaker and work amazingly with dark german paints. For the wheels use and no acidic cleaner and then rinse and dry and go with a good couple of applications of a decent rim wax I use RimWAX on mine lasts ages and the dust jsut blasts off easy when washing inbetween re doing them. That should have the car giving a deep clean gloss wet kind of look in the case of the collenite for a good 4-6 months I do this to my 3 series at the end of the winter and aend of the summer and its looks factory fresh as a 20k a year daily driver. |

Just wondering if the autoglym extra gloss protection is the same as its always been, silicone based ? if so applying extra coats of this product is a waste of time and product because it just smears and causes streaks from my own experience afew years ago ?

Not keen on the autoglym products. Found the duability poor. Did take this up with an autglym rep at the motorshow one year and was fobbed off.

BY hand application I have never had a problem with autoglym products or building up layers of said products and never had any streaking to the finish. I apply it in thin coats and go panel by panel. of course there are better products out there but by hand I find AG hard to beat in terms of their polishes the HD wax on the other hand is overpriced rubbish.
