An invitation to classic motor clubs

Historic aircraft and competition cars, classic road cars and military machines will converge on Bicester Heritage in Oxfordshire for the weekend of July 2nd and 3rd 2016, when Flywheel returns to the UK’s best-preserved Second World War bomber station. Showcasing the best in aviation, motorsport, motoring and military history in a uniquely atmospheric and intimate setting, this family-friendly nostalgia-fest brings together a fantastic range of entertainment to appeal to all ages.

Classic motor clubs are a vibrant part of the historic motoring movement, with many in existence as long as RAF Bicester itself (or longer!), and we welcome your members’ involvement with Flywheel. To encourage this we are offering eligible clubs a 50% discount deal for members and will provide a free, dedicated club parking area inside the display area of the event, for members arriving in (or on!) a club-specific vehicle.

The first Flywheel - held in June 2015 – was a huge success, drawing thousands of spectators who thoroughly enjoyed outstanding displays in the air and on the motorsport demonstration track, and the chance to get up close to an exciting range of military vehicles, aircraft and rare racing cars.

What’s an eligible classic motor club?

A club which typically includes, among the vehicles it caters for, at least one model that is more than 30 years old.

What’s the classic motor club deal?

  • A 50% discount deal (plus a booking service charge – minimum purchase two tickets) on advance discounted adult and child tickets for any members of an eligible, registered classic motor club.

  • A club-specific parking area for your club, so that you can create your own ‘stand’ for your members. NB there is no restriction on the age of the vehicles that can be parked there, but they must be relevant to your club.  This is your chance to showcase your club and put on a splendid display.

  • A club listing on our website with a link back to your website.

How do my members take advantage of the ticket offer?

Once your club’s registration has been approved you will receive a unique booking link to send out to your members. This is the link they must use to be able to access your club’s ticket offer and secure their display parking pass if they plan to arrive in a suitable vehicle. They will be asked for details of their display vehicle at the time of booking.

The discounted ticket offer is open to any of your members, regardless of whether or not they plan to arrive in a vehicle for display, but club display vehicle passes are only issued for appropriate display vehicles.

Can we display a club flag or have club literature to hand out?

Yes. Club display stands, tents, banners and literature are all allowed.

  • Club tickets and display parking passes must be booked by 5pm on Tuesday, June 28th 2016

  • However, we strongly recommend you CONTACT Tony Skerrett (bmwtony@outlook.com)and book well in advance, as events at Bicester Heritage can and do sell out and we cannot guarantee availability.

I am neither disappointed or even disheartened. It is the Clubs first showing at Flywheel which when combined with recent weather and also other events is at least a start. Never mind the quantity appreciate the quality!

It is a start that is fair comment, I just thought there might be a few more people as this looks like a good event. Especially when one reads the opening post on this thread. The weather we can do nothing about, it rained when I was at Goodwood on two days last weekend.

I have not been to Bicester site since it was RAF Bicester and I did a services projectionist course, so will be interesting to see how it has changed.

Looks like rain for Sat and better for Sunday.

Here are some details/information for those attending this two day event:

The Club Trailer will be present -  but we would like a few more volunteers so that we can ensure a rota system - coffee breaks/wander round the show.

See more at: http://www.flywheelfestival.com/
latecomer tickets: http://www.flywheelfestival.com/tickets/

For those with Display Pass(both days) - the Marshalls will guide you to the BMWCC Display Area.
For pre 1966 display cars there is a special area set aside for you - just make sure you show the Marshall your pre 1966 pass.

Arrival Times and hints
The car parks open at 9am each day and the public gates open 10am each day, with each day’s activities finishing around 6pm. Generally the rule is get there early as follows:

Pre 1966 Display Cars - 8/8.15am
Club Display - Sat 8/8.30
                        Sun 7.30/8am
(This is because Sunday is likely to be the busier day)

One decent hint I shall be there about 7.20am on Sat but will enter via the Sites Main Gates (the ex guard room site) near the roundabout. If any body wishes to join me you need to be there by 7.15am!. Entry via this site closes at around 7.30am 'ish. All Display vehicles and Public will enter via a separate entrance  from 8.30am onwards (
normally via A4421 Skimmingdish Lane (see MAP).

Directions:
please use postcode OX26 5HA only.
address
: Bicester, Oxfordshire  (A4421)see this map for directions:
https://goo.gl/AvJEXb
This will give you the main site entrance only (see decent hint above).
Actual Display/Public entrance is normally via A4421 Skimmingdish Lane (see MAP). However there will be plenty of site directions on or near the A4421 - dont panic!

regards Tony
